The digital pill

On November 13, 2017, the FDA approved the first digital drug in the world. The pill (which is effective against paranoid schizophrenia) contains a tiny sensor that sends a signal to a patch stuck to the body during digestion. This patch reports the successful medication to a smartphone.

On “Spiegel Online”, a German news website, Sascha Lobo writes about this exciting moment in the history of medical IT. Whether this turns out to be a curse or a blessing depends on how much control the individual has over this information.

With smartvisit, we give the responsible patient a tool for the responsible handling of health information.
